Welcome to Ultra Adventures Sweaty Butt 50KSweaty Butt 50kPart of the 2009 TriAssthlon! 7am Saturday July 4th 2009 Umstead State Park, Harrison Ave. (Reedy Creek) Entrance Cary, NC Limited to 30 Runners. Bring your non-running friends and family for the picnic! Currently EnteredAfter the run fills, registrants will be put on a waiting list. The course is 99% single track, and will be a very different experience from the Umstead 100 and the Umstead trail marathon. Most of the trails are VERY rooty and rocky. There will be three laps, with water and self-aid available at the beginning and mid-point of each lap. The course starts at the Harrison (I-40) parking lot and encompasses all of the Company Mill and most of the Sycamore trails. There will be water and self-aid available at the Horse parking lot, which is available via a short spur off the Sycamore trail. Runners will be constantly climbing and descending short hills, several of which are pretty steep. I think a lot of folks will be surprised at the beauty of the park's single track. There will be a lot of horse flies, possibly some stinging wasps, and possibly some snakes. It will be HOT. There is a limit of 30 runners. This is a training run with no fees, no support, and no awards. We will start at 7am and everyone needs to complete the course by 5 pm. Flickr photo set of 2008 sweaty butt. GMap Pedometer Approximation of Course (Milage not accurate due to out-and-back sections) Joey Anderson's 2007 photos Directions to Start: From I-40, take the Harrison Street Exit and turn Left (east bound) or Right (west bound) into Umstead State Park. Drive 1/3 mile into the parking lot. Look for Race HQ at a picnic table near the restroom facilities. Also look for a sign that says "Trail Heads." We will use one or two picnic tables as our base. Click here for a satellite view of the Harrison Exit and the Park Entrance. In this view the parking lot is near the center of the map image. Aid: Runners are expected to supply their own aid. The two aid stations are at Race HQ and the Horse Parking Lot, and will have ice and water, along with whatever you bring. Aid will be available every 5 miles. We may have some dry ice and popsicles at both aid stations. We will shuttle a drop bag from Race HQ to the horse parking lot. 2008 Results Entrants (July 3rd 2007): Mark Long Brad Smythe Andrea Smythe (1 lap) Doug Andrews Neal Jamison Joe Sauerbrey David Solomon Mike Walsh Joey Anderson Results:
